Fresh America Announces New Supply Chain Management Technology Initiative

DALLAS, Oct. 26, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Fresh America, Corp. (Pink Sheets:FRES), a major North American fresh produce distribution company, announced today that it has concluded arrangements to implement a significant new, food safety technology initiative providing superior management of its cold chain. The initiative is in cooperation with FreshLoc Technologies, Inc., a provider of wireless sensory networks.

Mr. Darren L. Miles, Fresh America's Chief Executive Officer and President, said, "We are very excited about the impact of FreshLoc's technology on the quality of our customers' products. This will become the first national cold chain effort of its type in the produce industry."

Fresh America will deploy FreshLoc sensor systems in its seven warehouses and subsequently on board trucks and at customers' receiving facilities. "Fresh America has taken the initiative to effect quality control across the entire supply chain, giving customers the information to know their products are of the highest quality. This will eventually link distribution centers, fleet operations and customer receiving points across the country," added Mr. Miles. "This level of measurement and control is unprecedented in supply chain management and results in product quality that is seldom achieved by conventional monitoring and logging methods," said Mr. Doug Foster, President and Chief Operating Officer of FreshLoc.

FreshLoc (www.freshloc.com) provides a patented wireless monitoring and maintenance system to monitor mission-critical equipment for food safety and operational cost savings for food chain industries. The Dallas-based company deploys wireless sensor networks using the Internet for efficient delivery of information services including alerting, reporting and analysis via pager, phone, e-mail or handheld devices. FreshLoc extends across the entire cold chain, including mobile-fleet operations monitoring all environmental conditions including temperature, humidity and equipment operational integrity.

Fresh America is an integrated food distribution management company that operates facilities located in Dallas and Houston, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, Pennsylvania; Richmond, Indiana; Chicago, Illinois, and Norwalk, California.
