Star-Studded Online Celebrity Auction to Benefit September 11 Relief Efforts at gloryauction.com

NEW YORK, Nov. 9, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- In an unprecedented display of support and generosity, celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Penelope Cruz, Britney Spears, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Halle Berry and more, have donated gowns and accessories to be auctioned over a two-week period at www.gloryauction.com beginning November 11, Veteran's Day. In addition, sports memorabilia and autographed jerseys from such teams as the NY Knicks, NY Yankees, NY Giants, NY Mets and others, will be auctioned. Designers, including Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, Badgley Mischka, Richard Tyler, Valentino and more, have generously donated couture and Ready to Wear clothing worn publicly by celebrities. "As a New Yorker and a mother, I am thrilled to contribute to such a worthy cause," said Vera Wang.

The items will serve to raise substantial dollars for the relief organizations and offer the public the most exciting, star-studded auction event in Internet history. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the Liberty Partnership Charity of the contributor's choice.

"What a great way to raise money, while passing on a cherished memory," said enthusiastic contributor, Vanessa Williams.

Coordinating the event is Julie Wells, president of Bridesmade.com. "My husband lost his best friend on September 11, and I wanted to do something in memory of all those who lost loved ones. I was in the unique position to have an auction site and a Rolodex. With a lot of help, I put the two together and we have a star-studded event that all Americans can attend no matter where they live," said Wells.

The celebrity contributors have donated their own items or items they have worn to a public event and been photographed in. A photo of each celebrity wearing the item will be included online for authenticity.

Helping to spearhead the event, celebrity stylist Philip Block has contributed his time, expertise and staff to the project, gathering valuable auction items from his extensive network.

"This auction is the perfect opportunity for the fashion and entertainment industry to mobilize. I am thrilled to be able to offer my time and energy to such a worthy endeavor," said Block.

Those interested in bidding on an item may log on to www.gloryauction.com beginning November 11, and place a bid. The auction is open to the public at no fee. Bidding officially closes on November 24 at midnight.

Philip Block and Julie Wells are available for interviews.
