Ticket Pros USA: Terrapins Boost D.C. Area Ticket Sales

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- The phones lit up at the Washington, D.C. Ticket Pros USA office on Monday, Dec. 3, when it was announced the University of Maryland Terrapins would be playing in the Orange Bowl. Washington-area fans are ecstatic the Terrapins are heading to Miami to play in the Orange Bowl for the first time in almost half a century.

After Sept. 11, ticket sales slumped as the economy slowed, but with the Terrapin win, Ticket Pros USA has seen an increase in consumer confidence. The Terrapins win has infused an excitement in fans that has made them dig into their wallets to buy tickets and package deals to the Orange Bowl.

"Maryland has not had a good team in years, but with the recent turnaround in Maryland basketball and now the football team, Terrapin athletics has been resurrected to a national powerhouse," said Eric Fehervari, a Maryland native and long-time Terrapin fan.

America has mourned for the last few months, but people are now ready to get out to enjoy entertainment events and root for their favorite teams. "We saw a definite downturn in sales after the attacks, but the Terrapin win has shown to be a saving grace for ticket sales in the D.C. area," said Laura Hurst, Director of Operations of Ticket Pros USA D.C. office. "Fans in the D.C. area are really excited about a local team going to the Orange Bowl and the amount of calls for tickets and packages we have recently received is proof of the Terrapin spirit felt in this area. We have also noticed an increase in sales for other major events, including the Super Bowl, especially since it looks like the defending champion Baltimore Ravens are gearing up for another championship run."

If ticket sales are any indication of the trend the economy is taking at this point, America should experience an economic boost very soon.
