Metso to Sell Interconsult to Jyki Corporation


HELSINKI, Finland, Jan. 16, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Metso Minerals, the rock and mineral processing business area of Metso Corporation (NYSE:MX), will sell Interconsult i Falkenberg AB to Jyki Corporation from Finland. Interconsult manufactures tanker superstructures and employs about 150 people. The company's net sales in 2001 totaled about EUR 12 million. Most of the company's operations are located in Falkenberg, near Goeteborg, Sweden. The business will transfer to the buyer immediately. The parties have agreed not to disclose the acquisition price.

Interconsult is one of the planned divestitures published by Metso Minerals at the end of last year. The company was transferred to Metso Minerals through the acquisition of Svedala Industri AB in September 2001.

Jyki Corporation is a supplier of trailers, trailer superstructures and storage and transportation systems for the process industry. The group has three production units in Finland: Jyki Oy in Laengelmaeki, Fokor Oy in Forssa and Site Oy in Kuortane. Jyki Corporation's net sales in 2001 amounted to about EUR 20 million. The group employs about 160 people in Finland.

Metso Corporation is a global supplier of process industry machinery and systems. Metso's core businesses are divided between Metso Paper (fiber and paper technology), Metso Minerals (rock and mineral processing) and Metso Automation (automation and control technology). In 2000, the net sales of Metso Corporation were EUR 3.9 billion, and the personnel totaled approximately 22,000. Metso Corporation is listed on the Helsinki and New York Stock Exchanges.

Metso completed its offer for Svedala Industri AB on September 14, 2001. Svedala is a global supplier of products and services for rock and mineral processes. Metso's and Svedala's combined net sales are approximately EUR 5,400 million (in 2000) and the amount of personnel is approximately 32,000.
