Teleca Modernizes Warehouse Operating System for IKEA in Switzerland


STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 21, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Teleca's automation group Benima has been selected to perform the thorough modernization of the control systems for the central warehouse for Switzerland, Italy and Austria that IKEA Lager und Service AG operates in Itingen. The assignment was given to Teleca for its competence and experience of similar projects.

The automated high-rack system handles incoming goods from delivery point to its destination in the depot and the reverse for outgoing goods. The decision to modernize the Warehouse Operating System involves the upgrade and replacement of systems and components for the control of the transport systems.

Benima is responsible for replacement of the stock management and flow of material system, programmable controllers, positioning system and drive system. Furthermore, Benima is responsible for all programming and also implementation of the communication between the systems, both TCP/IP over Ethernet to the management system and wireless communication with the cranes.

Teleca is undertaking this project in partnership with Sigma who is the prime contractor with responsibility for the overall project.
