Sigma to Deliver Wide Area Network for SEK 35 M to Swedish Volkswagen's and Scania Sweden's Dealers

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 28, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Sigma is delivering a nationwide datacom network that links all dealers and affiliates of Swedish Volkswagen and Scania Sweden. A total of slightly more than 240 addresses are being linked. The contract is valued at about SEK 35 M.

Swedish Volkswagen and Scania Sweden have a nationwide dealers network. It is of the foremost importance for dealers to have access to central systems for ordering of vehicles, spare parts management, service booking, finance and administration. Rapid communications between general agents, dealers and their affiliates is a condition for maintaining, for example, delivery information and price changes up to date.

"Sigma is building the new network by further developing the existing datacom network, which is being constructed with traditional as well as new communications technology. At locations where the performance demand is high, high-speed fiber-optic links are being used," relates Tony Ericsson, IT manager at Swedish Volkswagen. "The security in the network is improved significantly since the dealers are separated in so-called virtual private networks (VPN). The new network provides our dealers substantially higher performance at a lower cost."

The network is based on Sigma's 1net4u concept, a technical solution by which a company's entire data- and telecom traffic can be carried on a single connection. 1net4u is Sigma Maldata Network Solutions' high-speed service that make it possible to achieve the same high capacity between offices or out to the Internet as within the office. Several different operators can be used to create an independent 1net4u service.

"Our goal is to always offer innovative and customized solutions for the customer's communications needs," says Nils Boghammar, President of Sigma Maldata Network Solution. "We always begin by examining the company's operations and building a solution based on this."

Sigma Maldata Network Solutions functions as a systems integrator and offers services, products and solutions within IT infrastructure.
