Mandamus Secures ISO 14001 Environmental Certification

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 4, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- For several years, Mandamus has been preparing to introduce and certify an environmental management system (EMS). These preparations -- headed by Anders Silverbage, the regional manager in Skane and also the company's Environment Manager -- have permeated the whole organization. In its final form, the EMS was implemented throughout the organization from May 2001. During the autumn, Mandamus' EMS was revised by SEMKO-DEKRA Certification AB, an approved certification body accredited by the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment (SWEDAC). This revision paved the way for the SEMKO certification of the system that has now been achieved.

An EMS may be described as a code of conduct to reduce the environmental disturbances caused by a company's operations. The EMS also makes it possible to verify that the measures implemented serve to reduce environmental impact.

To Mandamus, this certificate represents recognition of the fact that the company's environmental work is of consistently high quality, and that the accommodation Mandamus offers entails no concealed environmental risks. The process towards certification has also meant that environmental efforts now, to a greater extent, govern all the company's operations. The EMS routines and documentation requirements are bringing about a much more systematic approach to environmental work.

The EMS, which covers all Mandamus' residential properties, serves to develop, regulate and safeguard the satisfactory fulfilment of Mandamus' environmental objectives in terms of:

 -- energy supervision
-- sorting of household refuse at source
 -- disposal of hazardous waste
 -- handling of chemicals
 -- environmental audit
 -- freon handling
-- purchasing and choice of methods
 -- PCBs and radon

It is vital to emphasize that Mandamus' EMS certification also involves a commitment to constant improvements in the company' environmental performance.
