Juilliard Alumnae Perform at "Music and Art" Themed Buckingham Hotel at Travel Industry Expert Stephanie Abrams', "Discovery Day NYC" Event for Travel Industry Leaders

NEW YORK, March 7, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Ask travel expert Stephanie Abrams, "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?" and she'll tell you, "Stay at The Buckingham Hotel and cross the street!" That's New York's 57th Street. But today, guests of The Buckingham and VIP travel industry have been invited to Abrams', "Discovery Day NYC" event, which will have a private concert performed by a trio of professional classical musicians, students of The Juilliard School of Music, playing flute, violin, and cello for their pleasure while the VIPs tour the hotel.

Abrams explained that, "Discovery Day is focused on what's new, what's hot and what's happening. New York City is the destination on everybody's mind these days! I invited some of the most important leaders in the travel industry to discover some of the best values in travel. The Buckingham Hotel is a perfect example of a happening place!." "This boutique hotel has a rich musical history and has been home to such greats as Paderewski, the composer and conductor who was also the first President of a democratic Poland in the early 20th century," Abrams noted. "The Buckingham is still caringly owner-managed by the family which has owned the hotel for over half a century."

Proud of its prime location on 57th Street and Avenue of the Americas, in the heart of NYC's music and business districts, where museums, theatres, concert halls and the best shopping in the world abound, the Buckingham is equally proud of its "music and art" theme. The current generation of family owners has focused its attention on blending comprehensive hotel services with residential living to provide the comforts of home in spacious, kitchen-equipped, all-suites accommodations while providing complete business and secretarial services, fitness center and sauna, concierge services and in-room work stations with data ports to meet the tech-savvy traveler's needs.

Stephen Shapiro, Managing Partner of The Buckingham, takes an active role in the development and implementation of projects and programs that propel the hotel forward. "We are proud of the Hotel's musical heritage and have created unique music-related art for it, with a gallery in the lobby reflecting our musical connections. We commissioned artists from the New York Studio School to create these works which attract visitors just to see the work," Shapiro noted. "They are the perfect representation of 'frozen music,' "he explained, "and complement the "Dancing King" -- the remarkable stained glass window we commissioned and installed over our entrance, keeping with the tradition of art glass on West 57th Street. This is a remarkably creative neighborhood," he said, "and being in the midst of all that music and art, we can't help but be part of it," Shapiro concluded.

Among those attending Abrams' Discovery Day are Don Gould, President of The Travel Authority and the CMA Consortium( 2000 agencies), Nancy Linares, Past Chairman and board member of ARTA(11,000 agencies), and Alfred Luthy, Vice President of Hotel Programs for Hickory Travel Systems (3200 agency ) who will also be serving with Stephanie Abrams on the hotel's Travel Industry Advisory Board.
