HiQ Wins SEK 24 Million Order from FMV for Training Simulators for the JAS 39 Gripen

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, March 20, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The IT and management consultancy HiQ has received another order from FMV, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration. The new order of SEK 24 million covers the development of simulators for training fighter pilots for the JAS 39 Gripen in 2002.

"Over the year we have positioned ourselves further as a leading supplier of services and equipment in the field of training simulators and simulator modeling. This contract provides good evidence that our client continues to have great confidence in us," said Rolf Anderson, MD of HiQ Approve AB.

"We see an opportunity for increased cooperation as well, since the contract also contains options for further activities within the area of simulator technology," said Anderson.

HiQ has worked on high-tech training simulators for the JAS 39 Gripen since 1992 and has a long experience of development within the defence industry. "The development of the simulators is advanced technology at its highest level. The simulators used for training pilots to fly the JAS 39 Gripen are being developed in parallel with the aircraft itself. Our contribution is to look in to new system requirements and to produce cost-effective solutions using new technology," continued Anderson.

In today's world the trend is towards more international operations and greater cooperation between nations, with communication and simulation as essential ingredients in this. Simulators have long been an important part of the training of both civil and military pilots. It is considerably cheaper and more environmentally friendly to fly in a simulator than in a real aircraft, and different maneuvers can be practiced more safely.

"As technology develops, so ever greater investment decisions are being made. With larger investments there is an increased need to simulate products and services cost-effectively. As a result, we estimate that the need for competence within simulation technology will continue to increase for both military and civil applications," said Lars Stugemo, CEO of HiQ.
