Micronic Receives Order for a Sigma7000 Series Laser Pattern Generator from Photronics

TABY, Sweden, April 22, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Micronic Laser Systems AB (Stockholmsborsen's Attract 40: MICR), a leading manufacturer of laser pattern generation equipment to the semiconductor and display industries, today announced that Photronics, Inc. (Nasdaq:PLAB) has ordered a Sigma7000 series laser pattern generator. The system will be used in the production of advanced semiconductor photomasks for the 130 nm technology node and beyond. Financial details of the order were not disclosed. The system will be shipped in the third quarter of 2002 at the latest.

"We are very pleased that Photronics has selected our Sigma7000 series of laser pattern generators. We consider Photronics to be a visionary company in the application of laser pattern generation" said Sven Lofquist, president and CEO of Micronic Laser Systems. "Micronic's laser-based tools offer an unsurpassed level of performance which is very attractive to both photomask makers and their customers."

The Sigma7000 series is based upon Micronic's unique SLM (Spatial Light Modulator) technology, fundamentally different from other pattern generators. The SLM-technology uses a massive parallel patterning principle, consisting of a chip with one million individually controlled micro mirrors. The technology delivers an uncompromised resolution with productivity, now and into the future.
