Skanska Awarded Another Power Plant Project in New York -- Contract Valued at USD 160 M, or SEK 1.6 Billion

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, May 7, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Skanska's U.S. subsidiary, Slattery Skanska, has been awarded its fourth power plant project in New York in recent months. The contract is valued at USD 160 M, SEK 1,620 M. The customer is Stone & Webster. The power plant project is being carried out for the KeySpan Energy Development Corporation.

The contract will be included in the order bookings for the second quarter of 2002.

The new project is for a combined-cycle power plant to be built on a site at the existing Ravenswood Generating Station in Long Island City, NY. A combustion turbine generator and a heat recovery steam generator will produce a total of 250 MW.

The scope of work includes all construction work on site, from relocation of existing utilities, site demolition and preparation, to placement of the concrete foundations and construction of the new 4,400 square meter (47,000-square-foot) powerhouse building, including a 120- meter (400-foot) reinforced-concrete stack.

Slattery Skanska will install, test and commission all plant equipment. The project involves installation of more than 12,000 meters (40,000 linear feet) of large- and small-bore piping as well as overseeing all electrical work.

Preconstruction work for this fast-tracked project is underway. Construction will begin immediately and is scheduled for completion by November 2003.

Slattery Skanska's subsidiaries, Gottlieb Skanska and Underpinning & Foundation Constructors, will also perform work on this assignment.

Slattery Skanska is currently performing construction of three other power-generating facilities, all located in Long Island, NY. Two of these assignments are for KeySpan Energy Development Corporation, owner of the current new power plant.

Including the new assignment, Skanska currently has four contracts for power plants in the U.S. totaling USD 255 M. In 2001, Skanska constructed 11 generator stations for the New York Power Authority in New York City. These plants were placed in operation in June 2001 after only five months of construction time.
