Pointsec Mobile Technologies Extends Agreement with SEB

The Pointsec Security Solution Becomes Standard also for PDAs

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, May 15, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The IT security company Protect Data's subsidiary Pointsec Mobile Technologies has entered into an agreement with SEB IT Service AB regarding the Pointsec(R) security software. SEB already uses Pointsec(R) for its laptops. The new agreement means that Pointsec(R) will also be part of the bank's standard solution for the employees' PDAs.

SEB IT Service AB will acquire licences as the standard platform for PDAs is delivered to the bank's employees'. There will be no extension of the present 1,100 licences for PCs and PDAs in conjunction with signing of the agreement.

In the next few days SEB IT Service is launching a standardised PDA platform for SEB's employees. The initial stage of this standard platform will give employees access to their e-mail, address book and calendar using various methods of connection such as the Internet and mobile telephony.

"Being able to solve the security problem was absolutely crucial. If a user for instance loses his PDA on the bus, it should not be possible for a stranger to access the data on it," said Daniel Carol-Svener, product manager at SEB IT Service.

"Like many other organisations, SEB understands the importance of protecting information, regardless of whether it is stored on a laptop or a PDA. The information does after all have the same value, regardless of what type of computer it is stored on. Pointsec is the only supplier that offers a solution covering both PCs and PDAs, and this has been an important argument for SEB in extending its partnership with Pointsec," said Jonas Areskoug, European Manager for Pointsec.

"Our approach to PDAs is the same as to PCs, and we believe they will be as important as PCs in the long term. By addressing the PDA environment at an early stage by building a standardised platform with central administration and built-in security, users will benefit more from their PDAs, and at the same time we will reduce the overall cost and resolve the security issue," Daniel Carol-Svener continued.

Pointsec is a security solution that uses access control and encryption to protect access to information, software and network connections on desktop PCs as well as portable and handheld computers. Only the user able to give the correct identity and password may access the information on the computer. Pointsec has been developed for large organisations, and is adapted such that it can be simply and cost effectively installed and administered centrally over a network

Pointsec Mobile Technologies has previously had major success for instance in the consultancy industry (WM-data, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young etc.) and with authorities (American Department of Justice, American Department of Defense etc.).
