GOTEBORG, Sweden, May 21, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Deliveries from Volvo's (Nasdaq:VOLVY) truck operations, which comprises Volvo Trucks, Mack Trucks, and Renault Trucks, amounted to 47,352 trucks year to date compared with 55,062 trucks last year, a decrease of 14%. In Europe deliveries declined by 17% to 29,902 while 10,560 trucks were delivered in North America, down by 18%. On a 12-month rolling basis, order intake was 2% below the same period last year, of which North America was minus 23% and Europe was up 4%.

"Deliveries in April were 9% higher compared with the same month last year, with increased volumes coming from Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks. Renault Trucks deliveries were unchanged for the month of April. Order intake continues to develop favorably for both Renault and Volvo in Europe. In North America, order intake has increased significantly in recent months for both Mack and Volvo, reflecting the implementation of new emission regulations in October 2002," says Volvo's CEO, Leif Johansson.

Mack Trucks
Deliveries for the month of April increased by 12% compared with thesame month last year. Orders continued to be very strong in April, butthe outlook for the fourth quarter, following the October implementationof the EPA '02 emission regulations and the full year remains unclear.

Renault Trucks
In a weakening market in Europe, Renault Trucks is managing to maintain or increase its market shares although sales volumes are following the downward trend. Compared with the year-earlier period, the new Renault Magnum is increasing its overall sales volumes slightly and has had significantly higher order intake.

Volvo Trucks Deliveries increased in April by 14% in Europe and 10% in North America.
The production change implemented during the first quarter is largely complete. As a result of highly favorable sales of the new truck program, the production system in Europe is currently operating at 100% capacity.
