Nokia introduces carrier-class management system

Nokia today introduced its next generation broadband element aggregation and mediation platform, Nokia NetAct for Broadband, at SUPERCOMM 2002. Based on a scalable and distributed J2EE-based client-server architecture, Nokia NetAct for Broadband provides an integrated management platform for all Nokia's broadband access and intelligent edge network elements including the Nokia D500 and ASR 2020.

This standards-based management platform provides broadband access network operators with a carrier-class management system that meets their scalability, reliability, performance and ease of use requirements. Nokia NetAct for Broadband provides features such as topology and fault management, network inventory, remote element configuration, performance and security management as well as cut-through command line interfaces.

"The key features Nokia NetAct for Broadband offers will enable carriers to reduce the cost of running and operating a broadband access network," said Mark Slater, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks. "Carriers will find the support Nokia NetAct for Broadband provides for management of all of Nokia's broadband access and intelligent edge network elements invaluable in network monitoring and trouble shooting."

Nokia NetAct for Broadband is a centralized, scalable and user-friendly alternative to other management interfaces such as command line interfaces and/or web-based embedded craft terminal applications. With its Java (TM) based client-server architecture, Nokia NetAct for Broadband easily adapts to any size broadband access network, including any combination of Nokia D50, D50e, D500, ASR 2020, and SMS network elements. When integrated with other applications, Nokia NetAct for Broadband acts as a mediation layer between specialized applications for network fault and performance monitoring, inventory management, service creation and activation, service assurance, and an increasingly diverse number of Nokia broadband network elements.

Deployed as a stand-alone system in a network operation center or similar environment, Nokia NetAct for Broadband's intuitive graphical user interface provides network operators with a way to rapidly and easily drill down from a high-level network view to the port and/or connection level. This gives access to all configuration, fault, and performance information supported by the network element. Furthermore, through its standards-based ASCII/XML and CORBA northbound interfaces, Nokia NetAct for Broadband allows for fast and cost efficient integration with a carrier's existing operation support systems (OSS) and applications.

Nokia NetAct for Broadband will be globally available Q3 2002.
