Occidental Chemical Upgrades Integrated Web-Based Portals

DALLAS, July 15, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Occidental Chemical Corporation (OxyChem) today announced a major upgrade to its integrated, web-based customer portals, Connect2.OxyChem.com and Connect2.OxyVinyls.com as part of its continuing efforts to enhance customer service. The company has implemented the latest version of Haht Commerce's Demand Chain software, Suite 7.0 to provide customers with the online capability to place and check orders, and to change previous orders.

"At OxyChem, we are committed to meeting the needs of our customers and improving the ease with which they conduct their OxyChem business," said OxyChem's VP eBusiness, Stacy Palmatary. "The concept of driving value for our customers is the center-piece of our eBusiness efforts."

The new system also offers an improved and expanded rail car tracking and management function to help customers reduce inventory, eliminate demurrage costs and increase the turnover of raw materials. The company expects these changes to stimulate continued growth of the system that currently handles approximately 15% of the company's orders.

"The enhanced capabilities and expanded information now available to customers through the "anytime anywhere" Connect2 system is a direct result of listening and responding to the needs of our customers," added Donald Thomas, OxyChem's Director of Customer Service.

OxyChem, a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) is a leading North American manufacturer of basic chemicals such as chlorine and co-product caustic soda, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and certain performance chemicals.
