Sign On Obtains Patent in Sweden

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 22, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The listed company Sign On has received a decision from PRV -- the Swedish Patent & Registration Office -- that its patent application concerning a method for the secure transmission of electronically signed documents via the Internet has now been approved in Sweden. Sign On's product, called FormPipe, fulfils the patentability requirements of innovation, level of invention, and industrial applicability.

Sign On received a positive opinion already in November 2001 from the Patent Corporation Treaty (PCT) -- an international patent agency. Further to this opinion, Sign On submitted a direct patent application in Sweden, Norway, Great Britain, Spain, Germany and Canada, as well as a European patent in order to cover all countries in Europe. A patent application in the United States was submitted nearly three years ago.

"This positive decision comes just at the right time, as Sign On and its partners are currently in the process of offering this solution to Swedish public authorities and municipalities. A Swedish patent protection strengthens our offer," comments Bosse Falgard, CEO. "The City of Stockholm has already chosen FormPipe, which also demonstrates that our patent concerns a product that the market is demanding," concludes Falgard.

FormPipe is a system that enables the transmission of information via the Internet from many users with an electronic signature to public authorities, municipalities and large corporations. An electronically signed document today has the same legal status as a traditionally signed paper document.
