Virage Publishing Solution to Automate Delivery of TV Content to Canadian Websites

SAN MATEO, Calif., Aug. 26, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Virage, Inc. (Nasdaq:VRGE), a leading provider of video and rich media communication software, today announced that its VS Publishing(tm) solution will support the delivery of up-to-the minute news and entertainment content to CTV.ca, the companion site to CTV, Canada's largest private broadcaster reaching 99 percent of English-speaking Canadians. In addition, Virage will support delivery of rich media content to the Discovery Channel Canada (exn.ca), and the Report on Business Television (ROBTv.com) websites.

"We're excited that these leading Canadian websites are pushing forward with exciting streaming-related initiatives," said Dave Girouard, senior vice president of Marketing and Strategy at Virage. "They've taken a realistic and pragmatic approach to building their online businesses. Their success shows how our technology can help leading media and entertainment companies cost effectively leverage content across their businesses."

CTV is Canada's pre-eminent broadcast communications company reaching 99 percent of English-speaking Canadians. Using the Virage SmartEncode(tm) suite, CTV content is encoded and indexed throughout the broadcast day. Up to three different sources from a variety of network affiliates are captured, at any one time. From this source material, approximately 120 video clips are delivered to the CTV website on a daily basis.

The Virage publishing solution also supports Report on Business Television (ROBtv), which is Canada's only all-business specialty channel. It provides comprehensive real time coverage of global market activity from a Canadian perspective. Using the Virage solution, ROBtv footage is captured and encoded throughout the broadcast day. The programming is encoded and indexed in half-hour blocks, automated by the Virage ControlCenter(tm) product, part of the Virage SmartEncode suite. From this material, video clips are produced and enhanced with additional information such as share prices for users of ROBTv.com throughout the day. Live and on-demand ROBtv video content, expanded and enhanced, is also made available by subscription to the Canadian investment community on globeinvestorGOLD.com.
