Grandma in the Computer Age: Let this grandma teach you how to live your life - and surf the 'net

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio, Oct. 30, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- If you think that the elderly are not capable of making a phone call with tiny computer-cellphones and surfing the 'net with a high-speed computer, then it's high time you meet this lady. Author Clara E. Martin recounts her own feats and defeats, encounters and struggles, amid this fast-changing world, as she takes a walk through memory lane in her autobiography "Grandma's Stroll Down Memory Lane" (now available through 1stBooks Library).

"Grandma's Stroll Down Memory Lane" tells the author's life story -- the many changes that she has lived through, covering more than eight decades of advancements brought about by various elements such as technology, electronics, medical science, travel and education. Life, for Martin, wasn't always that easy, as she has had to endure and undertake a number of adjustments to cope with the demands of time -- from waiting for letters delivered by post, to learning the proper way of zipping files and sending them through e-mails. Soon enough, Martin got the hang of a modern and more advanced life, but not without her share of blunders.

A native of Mansfield, Ohio, author Clara E. Martin was born in 1920 to a family of six children. She was reared on a farm, where she also experienced many of the remarkable advancements of the 20th century. After graduating as valedictorian from Madison High, Martin received a scholarship from Ashland College and attended Asbury Seminary to pursue a degree in Christian Education. There, she met Donald, who eventually became her husband.

Martin spent the next thirty years of her life raising her nine children and teaching in elementary grades; two of her children were adopted, Korean orphans. She also conducted services in the Knox County Jail and in the Orient and Marysville penitentiaries. Martin also started the Evangelical Church of the Nazarene in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, where she currently resides.
