Sempra Energy Adds Richard Newman to Corporate Board of Directors


SAN DIEGO, Dec. 3, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) today announced that Richard G. Newman has joined the company's board of directors.

Newman, 68, is chairman and chief executive officer of Los Angeles-based AECOM Technology Corp., a global technical professional services firm with annual revenues of $1.7 billion and 15,500 employees.

He brings additional international management experience to our board and his perspective will be invaluable as Sempra Energy continues to expand worldwide."

As a member of the Sempra Energy board, Newman will serve on the Audit and Corporate Governance committees.

Newman also serves as a member of the board of directors of Southwest Water Company and of 13 mutual funds under Capital Research and Management Company.

He holds a master's degree in civil engineering from Columbia University, New York, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa. Newman also is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, Executive Management Program.

The addition of Newman brings the total number of Sempra Energy board members to 14.
