Eighty-Eight Keys -- New Book Tells of the Continuing Struggle of a Gifted Musician

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz., Dec. 4, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Music is a tool that stimulates the senses. It alternately brings out the best and worst in a person. In "Two Faces" (now available through 1stBooks Library), author Nicholas Portillo, Jr. orchestrates a rich tapestry of events relaying the torturous, yet fascinating life of a talented pianist.

"Two Faces" follows Nick's journey from his childhood to the pinnacle of success. He spent much of his childhood in an orphanage, and while in there a nun discovers his aptitude for the piano. Sister Clara recognizes his immense talent and teaches him how to play, and ultimately changes Nick's entire future. It is this gift that helps Nick realize his true path. Armed with a natural ability to create music, he sets out to accomplish his dreams. Fulfilling his destiny may come hard, but he persists and is urged on by his passion for the ivory keys. He encounters many kinds of people as he deals with his various triumphs and tragedies, loves and romances.

"Two Faces" also relates Nick's battle with alcoholism. It reveals a brilliant pianist with a troubled soul. Without realizing it, Nick touches other people's lives and touches their hearts, not just with his musical stylings, but also with his desire to please them. Based partly on the author's life, "Two Faces" is a story that delves deep into an artist's psyche.

Nicholas Portillo, Jr. was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His mother passed away when he was only two-years-old. Portillo went to live in an orphanage and stayed there until he was nine. Although he never finished school, the many trials that he endured led him to write "Two Faces." Portillo currently resides in Apache Junction, Ariz.
