Swedish Defense Orders Pilot Study of New Radio Systems from Sectra

LINKOPING, Sweden, Dec. 16, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Swedish Defense has ordered a pilot study of the next generation of military radio systems from Sectra (Other OTC:SSBBF) (Stockholm:SECTb).

For the past two years, the Swedish Defense has been exchanging experiences with the U.S. military regarding the next generation of military radio systems. As part of this cooperation, Sectra has been selected to conduct a pilot study of flexible radio systems.

"Communications are an increasingly vital factor in military operations and this order is of strategic importance to Sectra," said Tommy Waszkiewicz, President of Sectra Communications AB. "Sectra has long-standing experience in the field of state-of-the-art radio design and we are honored to have been entrusted by the Swedish Defense to contribute our expertise. We are able to integrate a high level of security into the radio systems we develop for the future, thanks to our unique encryption skills," Tommy Waszkiewicz added.

The next generation of military radio systems must be adaptable and capable of being used on both a national and international basis in conjunction with joint military exercises and campaigns. It must be possible to use the same radio in different radio systems, simply by replacing the software. As a result of the new radio system, operative military units will require smaller amounts of equipment in the future, while retaining the same functionality in terms of communicating with several different control and communication systems.

Sectra Communications AB develops and sells eavesdrop-secure mobile communication systems and high-speed encryption systems for telecom and data lines. Customers consist of the defense forces and government agencies in Europe and other NATO countries that impose rigorous demands on their communications security. Sectra offers leading-edge encryption expertise and is one of the world's leading companies in the design and development of secure communications systems. With its market share of approximately 80%, the company is by far the leading supplier of secure communication and IT systems to the Swedish Defense.
