COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Dec. 16, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Intellix A/S announced today that Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN), Kingsport, Tenn., has signed an agreement for the enterprise-wide deployment of Intellix knowledge solutions. The agreement is the first sale by Intellix to a US-based company and is the first use of Intellix products within the chemical industry.
Intellix will supply their Designer and Knowledge Server software products to Eastman. These products enable non-IT business experts to rapidly build and deploy intelligent decision support systems. The agreement comes after a six-month evaluation by Eastman in their Kingsport facility during which time pilot systems were built for a range of applications.
Eastman spokesman Mike Pearce said: "We chose Intellix because of the ease-of-use of their Designer software and the diversity of applications that can be built with it . The Designer gives the business experts the capability to build, and more importantly maintain, their own knowledge-based systems. This allows the true experts to capture their knowledge in a system and to make that knowledge available to a wide range of individuals without relying heavily on IT resources. By using the Intellix suite of applications, Eastman will be able to capture knowledge that might have otherwise been lost through retirements or reorganizations. That in turn leads to a more efficient company."
