Emulex Host Bus Adapters to be Used by IBM in IBM eServer pSeries Linux Servers; Emulex LightPulse 2Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs Provide Robust Connectivity Solutions for IBM eServer pSeries Systems

COSTA MESA, Calif., July 31, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the world's leading supplier of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), today announced that IBM intends to use the Emulex LightPulse(tm) 2Gb/s host bus adapter to provide a Fibre Channel connectivity solution for its IBM eServer pSeries systems running Linux. The selection of high performance, feature-rich Emulex HBAs supports IBM in expanding its PowerPC-based Linux Fibre Channel implementations.

"The Power4-based IBM pSeries servers are fueling our growth, taking market share from our competitors, and are a critical element of the IBM Linux strategy," said Karl Freund, vice president, IBM eServer pSeries. "Working with innovative solution providers like Emulex allows us to deliver highly-scalable pSeries(tm) AIX(r) and Linux-based systems with high levels of reliability and performance."

World-class UNIX(r) and Linux implementations from IBM eServer pSeries are the result of leading-edge IBM technologies including POWER4(tm) processors and autonomic computing features. Through high-performance and flexibility between AIX and Linux operating environments, IBM eServer solutions deliver reliable, cost-effective solutions for commercial and technical computing applications for entry, mid-range and high-end UNIX systems.

"Emulex is broadening its longstanding relationship with IBM, and now delivers connectivity solutions for its iSeries(tm) and pSeries systems running Linux. We will continue to ensure delivery of industry-leading, robust storage networking solutions for enterprises," said Mike Smith, Emulex Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. "Emulex's best-of-breed solutions for Linux, offer the same level of performance, reliability and scalability as provided in other enterprise environments using our Fibre Channel HBAs."

The Emulex family of HBAs offers firmware upgradeability to protect customers' investments and a unique driver architecture that enables compatibility of a single operating system driver across Emulex's entire product line, which significantly reduces SAN management complexity while lowering the customer's total cost of ownership. The Emulex LP9002L is also fully compatible with drivers that support Emulex's new centralized HBA management suite, HBAnyware, which utilizes driver-based technology to enable complete management of Emulex HBAs and the ability to upgrade firmware anywhere in a SAN from a single console.
