Five Keys From the Orient -- New Novel Follows Philly Lawyer on a Dangerous Mission Around the Globe

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 17, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- In the post-Cold War world, espionage was thought to be dead. One Philadelphia lawyer learns that this is just what spies want people to think. In the thrilling new novel Five Keys From the Orient (now available through 1stBooks), by Michael Stack, a lawyer takes a job for a mysterious man, and traverses around the globe and straight into danger.

Nick McGuire is an up-and-coming, hotshot Philadelphia lawyer. He has the perfect life, and the lovely Alexis McArdle, is his perfect fiance. But when she leaves him and marries millionaire and blue blood socialite Bryson Maxwell, Nick sees his world spin out of control. He quits his firm and abandons his glitzy lifestyle. A mysteriously intriguing ad in the newspaper leads Nick to his next job, working for Amos Creekmor.

For Creekmor, Nick travels to Hong Kong, Bali, Jakarta, Singapore and Paris to pick up a key in each city. His task is to collect all five keys and return them to Philadelphia. His compensation is an attractive $5,000 a week plus a bonus of $50,000.

Arriving in Hong Kong, Nick finds that the first pick-up is a piece of cake. However, the messenger who brings the key in Bali is murdered, as is the messenger in Jakarta. An attempt is then made on Nick's life; Nick escapes, but his curiosity grows. What has he got himself into?

In Singapore he meets a beautiful doctor, Tam Shishu, who works for a powerful multi-billionaire named Thang. Paris brings him into the enchanting gaze of Gabrielle, who charms him then robs him at gunpoint, escaping with the keys. Fearful for his own life, Nick returns to Philadelphia to see Creekmor. Soon, however, Nick realizes there is more to his job than meets the eye.

Five Keys From the Orient is a politically charged thriller that trots the globe.

Stack is a Philadelphia lawyer and his wife, Felice, is a municipal court judge. They have five children, one of whom is a state senator in Pennsylvania. Five Keys From the Orient is his first published novel.
