Where Only Eagles Dare to Fly - New novel tells of woman searching for her Indian heritage

HIGHLANDVILLE, Mo., Nov. 19, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- When Amelia Malone's curiosity about her Native American ancestry prompts her to move from her rural home to the city, she is plunged into a chain of events that puts her in touch with ancient spirits, introduces her to prejudice and steers her on a quest to find herself. Author Carol J. Sale's new book, Where Only Eagles Dare to Fly (now available through 1stBooks), is a story of friendship and adventure written to appeal to readers of all ages.

Upon her arrival in the city, Amelia, a divorced, middle aged woman, is haunted by an evil spirit and must cope with its frightening nightly visits. While attempting to understand the presence of the evil spirit, she must overcome the presence of Buck, a young Indian man, who's been sent on a vision quest by tribal elders. Amelia soon learns she is to play an important part in Buck's vision of a legend that many generations of Native American Indians have waited to see fulfilled.

While on a train to the Bar H Ranch in Tucson to see the western "Guns of Justice" filmed, Amelia meets Dustin, whom she later discovers to be Buck's best friend. During the week ahead, Amelia saves both of her friends: one from a rattlesnake and the other from a knife throwing renegade. Buck and Dustin later find themselves at odds over Amelia.

Throughout the novel, Amelia assists others in dealing with intense emotional battles, while attempting to overcome her "Great Bear within," her insecurities and her "Great Bear without," a bold legged cowpoke who has vowed to have her. The novel concludes when a hidden truth about Native American Indians is brought to light, and Amelia finds her destiny as she spreads her wings and attempts to soar Where Only Eagles Dare to Fly.

Sale wrote this novel while researching her Indian ancestry. After the novel was completed, Sale had a chance to go west and be an extra on "The Young Riders" show. She currently resides in Missouri.
