QLogic Offers Customers Simple, Affordable SAN Solutions with HP

QLogic Storage Networking Components Bundled with HP StorageWorks MSA1000 SAN Kits for the Small and Medium Business

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Nov. 24, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the company that powers storage area networks (SANs), today announced it has been chosen to be the supplier of Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) for a series of simplified and cost effective SAN solutions built upon the HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) 1000. The HP StorageWorks MSA1000 SAN Starter Kit offers everything needed for simple and rapid deployment of entry-level SANs targeted for the small and medium business.

The HP StorageWorks MSA1000 SAN Starter Kit includes: one MSA1000, a cost-effective 2Gb Fibre Channel storage system for entry-level to midrange SANs; an embedded 2Gb full-fabric 8-port Fibre Channel switch; two HP StorageWorks branded HBAs from QLogic, embedded with RISC processors for higher performance and lower CPU utilization; and all the necessary Fibre Channel cables. The fully integrated and tested solution allows users to manage up to 14 disk drives and 2 terabytes of data or up to 42 drives and 6 terabytes with the addition of two optional drive enclosures.

"QLogic and HP are committed to making storage networking easier," said Frank Berry, vice president of marketing, QLogic Corp. "The HP StorageWorks MSA1000 SAN Kits offer the right balance of ease-of-use, requisite enterprise performance, functionality and value, in a platform that businesses can scale as their needs grow."

Users with high availability requirements can enhance their MSA1000 SAN Starter Kit by purchasing the HP StorageWorks MSA1000 High Availability (HA) Kit. The HP StorageWorks MSA1000 HA Kit offers an upgrade to dual-path redundancy for the MSA1000 SAN Starter Kit. Supporting both Windows or Linux operating environments, each upgrade kit includes: one additional MSA1000 controller, providing a HA redundant controller configuration; one additional 2Gb 8-port Fibre Channel switch; two additional QLogic-based HBAs; and two HP StorageWorks Secure Path licenses for Windows and Linux operating systems.

Customers can save substantially when they purchase the HP MSA1000 SAN Starter and High Availability Kits, as opposed to buying the same components separately. Current HP ProLiant server or HP StorageWorks Smart Array customers can leverage existing HP Universal one-inch SCSI drives for maximized investment protection.

Also offered as part of the HP Modular Smart Array family of external storage solutions are the HP ProLiant server packaged solution, featuring two ProLiant DL380 servers, an MSA1000 enclosure, two QLogic-based HBAs, one 8-port Fibre Channel switch, and all the required cables.

"With the help of QLogic HBAs, the HP StorageWorks MSA1000 SAN Starter Kits and HP ProLiant server packaged solutions simplify and reduce the cost of configuring, deploying and managing shared storage," said Kyle Fitze, director of product marketing, Online Storage, HP. "This is an example of how HP is delivering on its Smart Office initiative to address the unique needs of customers in the SMB segment both today and as their business grows."

All the HP Modular Smart Array family kits featuring QLogic HBAs are now available from HP's channel partners or directly from HP.

QLogic HBAs

The QLogic line of HBAs offers an extensive checklist of features and benefits that is unmatched in the industry, including performance of up to 80,000 input/output operations per second (IOPs) and more than 800MB of throughput per second. This series features a unique "bridgeless" dual channel HBA, eliminating the severe performance degradation of PCI-X bridges used in competitive HBAs.
