MONTREAL, Nov. 25, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Diamond Discoveries International Corp. (OTCBB:DMDD) is pleased to report that CF Mineral Research Ltd, a heavy mineral processing services company based in Kelowna B.C. and owned by Chuck Fipke, has confirmed the presence of diamond indicator minerals in rock samples obtained from DMDD's 100% owned Torngat property in northern Quebec, Canada.
CF Mineral Research analyzed 112 mineral grains using an electron microprobe. The mineral grains were selected from crushed rock samples taken from various kimberlitic dykes found in the project area. The mineral grains are mantle nodules and eclogite fragments carried by the kimberlite magma.
"Electron microprobe analyses indicate diamond indicator minerals in rock samples from the St. Pierre Dyke, H-Dyke, the Henri Dyke and all these samples contain mantle nodules of fosteric olivine," said geologist Robert Dillman. "Using CF Mineral Research Ltd classifications, one olivine nodule selected from the Henri Dyke has a composition equivalent to fosterite olivine nodules associated to those kimberlite with large diamonds."
The Henri kimberlite dyke system is composed of a swarm of four dykes and interpreted to extend approximately 7.5kms from UTM zone 20 402600E and 6575500N at its southerly limit to 404200E and 6581100N where it is terminated or offset by a northwest trending kimberlite dyke. The main dyke is consistently wider than 130 cm and can reach widths of over 2.5 meters. The interpreted offset could extend north to incorporate the Champagne complex which consists of two kimberlite dykes, four blowouts and a pipe.
Worldwide, over 90% of diamond production comes from pipes; however, dykes are mined principally in South Africa and are of high grade and very economic. DeBeers bought the Snap Lake diamond-bearing dyke in the Northwest Territories from Winspear Resources and Aber Resources for C$500 million. Underground mining of dykes is yet to be tested in Canada.
The gathering of rock samples by the field crew from the recently completed fourth season of exploration was supervised by Mr. Mark Connell, P. Geo. These samples were then delivered to Prospecting Geophysics head office in Val D'or, Quebec and examined by project manager Mr. Peter Ferderber. The selected samples were then sent to Robert Dillman's lab to be crushed and examined before being sent to R.L. Barnett Geological Services and to CF Mineral Research Ltd for electron microprobe analysis.
