Nomadix Supplies Universal Subscriber Gateway II for Eindhoven City Centre HotZone in the Netherlands

Pilot Program in Kenniswijk Eindhoven Provides Citywide Wireless Broadband Access to Residents and Visitors

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Dec. 2, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Nomadix, Inc. (www.nomadix.com), the leading supplier of Public-access solutions, today announced that its Universal Subscriber Gateway II(TM) has been used in a pilot program that involves a citywide wireless network or "HotZone" in Kenniswijk Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The "Eindhoven City Centre HotZone" provides ubiquitous wireless broadband coverage and offers users a standard user interface with similar tariffs in a wide geographic area.

WinQ, a European Wireless ISP, developed the concept, engineered the network, completed the site acquisition and now manages the network. WinQ's vision included the delivery of world-class services over a highly manageable infrastructure, allowing consumers in the city center an incomparable experience: high speed Internet that offers real time video streaming over the network while strolling through the streets of Eindhoven.

"Kenniswijk demonstrates the various applications that make an Internet connection interesting to the general public. Basically, the whole city center of Eindhoven is a HotZone with the central train station as starting point," said Kenniswijk center customer service manager Wim Renders. "When I log on to the WINQ Wi-Fi hotspot network and see the Nomadix swirl, I know I'm working on a reliable wireless system."

The Wi-Fi network uses the Nomadix Universal Subscriber Gateway II (USG II) for seamless customer acquisition and service provisioning in the HotZone. Proxim Tsunami (in bridge mode) and Proxim AP-600 are used in the HotSpots, linking up to the Nomadix USG II in the Network Operating Center. Broadband access is delivered to the end users in various ways, ranging from Fibre speeds of up to 1 Gbps down to Wi-Fi speeds of up to 11Mbps.

"It is thrilling to be a part of a bold citywide Wi-Fi deployment -- one of the first in the world," said John DiGiovanni, director of marketing for Nomadix. "Our involvement in Kenniswijk's pilot program demonstrates Nomadix' commitment to remaining on the cutting edge of the Wi-Fi industry, growing our global footprint and expanding the industry's horizons."

The pilot program has been running since July 2003 and is built out in phases. The first phase involved installing the network backbone in the city centre. Subsequent phases included network distribution to the consumers and in the venues, and deployment throughout the rest of the city. Venues such as hotels, cafes and a railway station were connected in September 2003. These locations are part of a field trial to learn how the Dutch market will pick up this type of service. Since the first stage of deployment, the network was used for live television broadcasts of city council meetings, which can be viewed at www.bestuuronline.nl.

The leader in Public-access networking, Nomadix powers over 10,000 points of presence throughout the world through a family of Access Gateways and licensed embedded software solutions. The company's gateways and solutions have been deployed in a variety of venues including airports, hotels, convention centers, multiple dwelling units, college campuses, coffee shops and popular food chains.
