Olixir Technologies Launches Serial ATA Interface Dramatically Boosting Data Transfer Speed and Versatility of the World's Most Durable 3.5 Inch Portable Drive

Next Generation Interface Decreases Data Transfer Time and Adds Hot Swap Capability and Bootability, Making Olixir's Ruggedized Portable Hard Drive the Optimal Storage Solution for Backup/Disaster Recovery and Digital Video and Multimedia Applications

MILPITAS, Calif., Jan. 8, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Olixir Technologies, a leading provider of ruggedized, portable data storage solutions, today announced the availability of a next-generation Serial ATA interface cable for its Mobile DataVault 3DX family of high-performance, high-capacity, ruggedized portable hard drives. Targeted at the portable storage needs of video editing and photography applications, and the backup and disaster recovery demands of SOHO users and small- to medium-sized enterprises, the Serial ATA interface provides burst data transfer rates of up to 150 MB/s (or about 1.5 Gbps), and well over 40 MB/s sustained. This interface is bootable, allowing users to "instantly" restore data from the external drive.

Adding to the existing USB 2.0, Firewire, and PCMCIA interface options available for Olixir's popular Mobile DataVault drives, the hot-swappable Serial ATA interface further enhances the performance and usability of the industry's first truly portable, platform-independent external hard drives. The Mobile DataVault is equipped with a single Centronics interface, allowing it to be used interchangeably with all aforementioned cables or in chassis-based solutions.

"We are excited to be one of the first in the industry to provide the new high-speed Serial ATA interface for our popular portable hard drives," explained Darshan Shah, President of Olixir Technologies. "We're seeing widespread adoption of our ruggedized drives in a variety of consumer and business applications due to the portability, performance, and reliability of the drives. The addition of the exciting new Serial ATA interface to our existing USB 2.0, Firewire, PCMCIA, 5.25" Databay, and DataVault array options makes the Mobile DataVault the most versatile, cost-effective, and high-performance solution for digital video, photo, and music storage applications. In addition, Serial ATA allows for much faster backup and restoration compared to tape backup. Since our drives have proprietary shock protection, users can rotate and offsite archive these drives, just like tape. The result is affordable backup and disaster recovery at an amazing new performance level."

About the Mobile DataVault 3DX

Proven to withstand shocks of up to 1200 Gs without damage to stored data, the high-capacity Mobile DataVault 3DX includes 8 MB of cache memory and is available from 80 to 250 GB capacities. The Mobile DataVault 3DX is over 425% more shock-protected, and over 40% smaller, compared to most popular external drives. An easy-to-install data storage solution for any computing platform, the Mobile DataVault 3DX uses an innovative, versatile interface that can be used interchangeably with Olixir's USB 2.0, Firewire, PCMCIA, and Serial ATA cable interfaces. In addition, the Mobile DataVault 3DX has the ability to use Olixir's 5.25" Databay for desktop PCs or Mobile DataVault Array systems making it an ideal tape-replacement solution for media rotation and data security. The Mobile DataVault 3DX supports plug-and-play operation with Macintosh OS 8.6 and higher, Windows 2000/XP, and Linux operating systems.

Available in 80 GB, 120 GB, 180 GB, and 250 GB capacities, Olixir's Mobile DataVault 3DX drives with the Serial-ATA interface are now available through PC Mall and the Olixir website at list prices of $289, $329, $424, and $574 respectively. The USB 2.0, Firewire, and Serial ATA versions of the external drive ship with award-winning Dantz(r) Restrospect(r) software for backup and disaster recovery.
