Protocom Development Systems: British American Tobacco signs agreement with market leader in Enterprise Single Sign-on

LONDON, Feb. 5, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- British American Tobacco have agreed a global licence agreement for enterprise wide Single Sign-on Solution with Australian security software house, Protocom Development Systems. British American Tobacco (http://www.bat.com) is the world's most international tobacco group, with brands sold in 180 markets around the world.

As with all large organisations, British American Tobacco has been suffering increasingly from password chaos. Users have been required to remember multiple username/password combinations to carry out their daily work. "With the increase in applications and services, the number of passwords to remember has grown considerably. To reduce our helpdesk overload, we required a solution to simplify authentication for our employees," said Mr Dan Petrone, Head of Global Client Services, Globe House, London.

After evaluating several single sign-on solutions, British American Tobacco chose SecureLogin as it offered the fastest results with the greatest flexibility. Unlike other methods, SecureLogin makes no changes to the application servers, and with its powerful scripting technology is able to deliver added value outside of the simple username/password recall. SecureLogin is able to decrease application login time dramatically, delivering benefit to users and administrators alike.

"After extensive evaluation, we chose, Protocom's SecureLogin. It met our tactical requirements for a single sign-on product and was able to leverage our existing active directory infrastructure. We were impressed with the way the solution was centrally managed and completely scalable" says Petrone.

"We identified 9 core applications for the single sign-on (SSO) project, but are constantly being approached by other areas of the business to request the addition of local applications to the SSO database. This is a simple process which can be carried out in a matter of hours. We estimate that there will be in excess of 25 applications within the SSO project inside 12 months," said Jon Veness, SSO Project Manager.

Working with Protocom, British American Tobacco has now made SecureLogin available globally to the 35,000 userbase and expects to see real cost-savings in a matter of months
