Teleca strengthens its Bluetooth(R) offering -- takes over IAR Systems' Embedded Bluetooth(R) Protocol Stack

MALMO, Sweden, Feb. 27, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Teleca and IAR Systems have today agreed the transfer to Teleca of all intellectual property related to IAR Systems' Embedded Bluetooth(R) Protocol Stack. In conjunction with the transfer the two companies have signed a collaboration agreement that gives IAR Systems the right to continue selling licences connected with the product.

The taking over of the embedded Bluetooth(R) protocol stack is in line with Teleca's commitment to developing wireless applications and products and at the same time strengthens its Bluetooth offering. Teleca will use the stack primarily as a subcomponent in some of the solutions and projects it sells.

The Bluetooth stack is considered one of the market's most space-saving and optimised for embedded systems based on 8- and 16-bit microprocessors.

All new licensing agreements concerning the stack will be between Teleca and end customers. Teleca will not be taking over existing customer agreements, which IAR Systems will continue to handle as before. IAR Systems has the right to continue selling product licences during an initial 24-month period. However, both parties intend to extend the agreement beyond this period.

Teleca and IAR Systems have agreed a product development plan in which the next release will occur before the summer. Among other things, this will include an upgrade to Bluetooth v1.2.

"We're looking forward to the new opportunities that our expanded Bluetooth portfolio will bring and we're very pleased to be working with IAR. This collaboration will create value for everyone involved, not least our customers," says Magnus Andersson, Managing Director of Teleca Systems AB.
