A Mother's Book on Grieving Eases The Loss of Her Adult Son

A Year-long Chronology of Poetry Serves as a Catalyst in Healing

LOS ANGELES, April 15, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Grieving -- A Mother's Point of View is a book of poetry to help ease the pain of the loss of a loved one -- in this case an adult son. It is a chronology of a year in the grieving process.

The poetry text will reassure readers that they are not alone and that others have had similar experiences. The book is intended for an individual to read alone. It speaks directly to the person, touching on all areas of loss and the ability to survive that loss. Although the poetry is directed to individuals, many of the pieces have been read at memorial services and grief counseling groups.

This book is aimed at people who seek inspiration through poetry, religion, philosophy, self-help, body, mind and spirit, family and relationships, and psychology.

"A mother's point of view on grieving for a son is a very intimate and emotional poignant time," according to author Judith Goffin. "I decided as a writer, that the best thing for me was to create a book of poetry to share with others who might experience a similar loss in their lives."

Goffin said, "The poems I have written enabled me to look at the pain and let the words from my heart spill onto the page." She said, "This action helped me to heal my heart, although the loss will always be with me."

"My son Steve was a sweet-gentle soul and touched many lives with his kindness and generosity," said Goffin. "This book is dedicated to his memory," she said.

Goffin is an author, lecturer, photographer, roseairium and owner of a small public relation company established in 1980. Her writing and photography has appeared in regional and national publications. She resides in Yorba Linda, CA.

She lost her oldest son Steven, age 41 in February of 2002 due to complications related to diabetes. Steven had a successful landscape management company and Judith and her son enjoyed the love of the garden and all of God's gifts in nature. Ms. Goffin's family includes son Charles, his son Zachary and daughter Deborah. Both Charles and Deborah are married.

A scholarship fund has been established in Steve's memory in the horticulture department at Fullerton College in California. This will ensure that other young people will have the opportunity to explore their talents, expand their vision and add to the natural beauty in the world in which we live.
