Getac Mobile Laptop Meets the Extreme Environmental Specifications for Military Computing

MobileForce A770 Works in Emission Interference Environments of Today's Industrial Plants as well as Under Tough Battlefield EMI Standards

LAKE FOREST, Calif., May 3, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Getac Inc., a leading pioneer of rugged portable computers, today announced their highly ruggedized MobileForce(tm) A770 notebook computer was awarded MIL-STD-461E certification, for the Department of Defense's (DoD) Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) standard that defines the extreme environments found in military settings. Coupled with the laptop's MIL-STD-810F certification for drop, vibration, and environmental extremes, this highlights the A770's flexibility, portability and all-terrain capability to operate in demanding military environments as well as in other tough field applications such as emergency services, public safety, law enforcement, field maintenance or wherever the environment is a challenge in itself.

A fan-less design, the A770 defies hot and freezing conditions, operating in temperatures to 36 degrees below freezing (-4 degrees F) and Sahara Desert-like highs exceeding 130 degrees F. At just over 12.5 pounds, its die-cast magnesium alloy case is dirt and dust-proof, waterproof and shockproof. The A770 is designed to operate smoothly after being subjected to drops from 3 feet on hardened steel plating and 15g shocks and vibrations.

The A770 exceeds just Mil-qualified ruggedness, offering many features usually available only in industry leading commercial laptops. It uses Intel's 1.4 or 1.6GHz Pentium-M(r) processor with Centrino(TM) technology for extended battery life, and offers a front side bus speed of 400MHz and secured wireless communications. For demanding programs such as real-time GPS telemetry command and control, the A770 accommodates up to 60GB of disk storage, plus up to 1GB of high-speed double data rate (DDR) 266MHz memory. The unit has two expansion bays, which can be filled with multiple com ports (including IEEE 1394), PCMCIA slots, batteries, a wireless module, various CD and DVD drives, and an audio card. Further expansion is accommodated through an additional bottom-mounted chassis, which can have two PCI or ISA expansion cards.

The A770 is configurable with a 12.1" or 14.1" XGA LCD, with touch screen and sunlight readable options, plus a waterproof backlight keyboard, making the unit easy to use in almost any conditions.

"Whether you operate in extreme environments or just want the humvee of personal computers, the A770 provides the ruggedness required by the military without sacrificing the features today's business users want," said Joe Chernof, Getac Federal sales manager.
