Photos for the Soul -- New Photography Book Captures Beauty of Nature

ALAMEDA, Calif., June 2, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- In his new book, Ford Boyer moves from writing about the connection between the mind and body to capturing the essence of beauty through photos. Beauty and the Word: Planting Seeds (now available through AuthorHouse) is a collection of vivid color photographs that radiate with a profound sense of awe at the natural world.

When Boyer acquired a digital camera, he began seeing the world differently. Although he had been aware of the impact color had on him, it was not until he began viewing the characteristics of nature though the lens that he truly saw their intensity.

Viewing these photographs evokes a sense of peace and connection to the divinity that lies within every living thing, Boyer writes. Simplicity is often one of the most powerful traits, and Beauty and the Word illustrates this. A strong tree, a flowering vine or a serene shoreline are all extremely simple images, yet they can cause such a stir in the human psyche. Photographers have captured these images for centuries, yet time and again viewers are moved at the beauty of nature.

In Beauty and the Word, Boyer adds a small inspirational idea with each image. He brings his experiences as an ordained minister and student of Eastern philosophy to his book.

"The book is art; it's spiritual; it is in the field of photography; it encompasses life and death and love," Boyer writes.

Boyer has written two other books, Rituals for a Peaceful Transition and Listening to the Soul, which he co-authored. He earned a certification in addiction studies, a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in interdisciplinary consciousness studies from John F. Kennedy University. Boyer also earned a doctorate in divinity from the American Bible Institute and a diploma in metaphysical theology from Holy Well Bible College. An ordained minister, he served as a hospice chaplain and a counselor. He lives with his wife, Juelle Ann, in the San Francisco Bay area.
