Northrop Grumman Celebrates Sixth Year Supporting High School Mentoring Program

BALTIMORE, June 24, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) is celebrating its sixth year supporting a unique mentoring/educational outreach program with the objective of cultivating and motivating future technical and business talent.

Worthwhile To Help High School Youth (WORTHY) is a mentoring program that teams Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector employees with Baltimore city high school students to help them achieve their dreams of pursuing technical and business careers.

"WORTHY is an investment in our future," said Robert P. Iorizzo, president, Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems. "While the students gain valuable one-on-one experience in a real work environment, our employees are playing a critical role in developing the future of our workforce."

Each year, Northrop Grumman selects at least 10 Baltimore city high school students for the program who are entering into their sophomore or junior years, based on criteria such as their interest in pursuing a technical or business degree, ability to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, their leadership skills and community involvement.

While in high school, each student works with two Northrop Grumman mentors during the school year on selected projects tailored to their business interests and technical level. Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems collaborates with the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) to provide part-time summer employment to high school and college students focused on developing technical, business and leadership skills.

Upon graduation from high school, qualified students receive multiyear partial scholarships from the company ($5,000/year for a maximum of $20,000 as long as they maintain at least a 3.0 GPA) at an accredited college or university. In addition, the students can return to the company/UMBC and work during the summer while in college.

Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector, headquartered in Baltimore, Md., is a world leader in the design, development, and manufacture of defense and commercial electronics systems, including airborne radar systems, navigation systems, electronic warfare systems, precision weapons, airspace management systems, air defense systems, communications systems, space systems, marine systems, oceanic and naval systems, government systems, and logistic services.
