The Association for Women in Technology Teaches Girl Scouts about 'Exploring The Net'

MEDIA ADVISORY, Sept. 17, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) --

WHAT: The Association for Women in Technology, Southern California
(AWT), a local non-profit organization dedicated to serving the
advancement of women and girls in all fields of technology,
will host an interest project workshop called "Exploring the
Net." AWT has hosted a monthly series of Girl Scout workshops
since last summer, allowing the girls to complete various
requirements to earn Brownie, Junior, Cadette and Senior
recognitions while learning about technology and various
        careers in technical fields.

The "Exploring the Net" workshop will teach senior Girl Scouts
about navigating the Internet. The session will provide the
girls with an opportunity to create lists of favorite Internet
sites, develop Internet scavenger hunts and plan trips as
Internet "tourists". Through this special AWT workshop, girls
of all ages will have a hands-on approach to exploring
careers, schools, sports and more. Participants will complete
some of the requirements for the Exploring the Net Interest
Project. This event is for the Girl Scouts 11-17 group.
Attending this event will allow Girl Scouts to have hands-on
computer learning with the guidance of science and technology
        professionals.

This event is a real "working" opportunity, and participants
should plan to take notes and ask questions. Girl Scouts must
pre-register for this workshop by contacting Lesley Finch, Program
Specialist at GSCOC at 714-979-7900 ext. 318 or lfinch@gscoc.org.
To help as an AWT Girl Scout Workshop volunteer, please contact
Lori Shapiro, Girl Scout Program Organizer at 888-721-2726 or
        email lori@awtsocal.org to participate.

WHO: As a dynamic forum for networking and learning opportunities,
AWT bridges the gap between industry, education and community
institutions and continues to strengthen the fabric of our
Southern California technology region. AWT holds meetings and
events every month, attracting women in every area of
technology, from those just entering the field to senior level
management and technology innovators. To learn more about AWT,
