Northrop Grumman Rolling Meadows-based Facility Honored With Best Plant Award from IndustryWeek Magazine

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Sept. 20, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Defensive Systems Division manufacturing facility in Rolling Meadows has been named one of the ten best plants in North America by IndustryWeek magazine.

The award recognizes world-class manufacturing capabilities and a management mindset of continuous improvement. The plant was one of ten selected from more than 400 facilities nominated for the 2004 awards.

Introduced by IndustryWeek 15 years ago, the Best Plant Awards annually recognize outstanding manufacturing facilities that are on the leading edge of efforts to increase competitiveness, enhance customer satisfaction, and create stimulating and rewarding work environments.

"We are honored to be chosen by IndustryWeek as a model manufacturing operation," said James Cameron, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman's Defensive Systems Division. "Our discriminator is our unyielding focus and dedication on providing our customers the tools they need to fulfill their critical missions. We do this by working hand in hand with our customers to determine and implement the best possible solutions to help them achieve their goals."

According to the article outlining the division's achievement, IndustryWeek stated: "The Defense Systems Division's customer focus is apparent throughout the high-mix, low-volume Rolling Meadows plant. Rather than focus on one omnipresent improvement philosophy - such as lean or Six Sigma or value-stream mapping - Rolling Meadows uses all of these and more techniques, all with an eye on customers, customers, customers."

The Defensive Systems Division, comprised of operations in five states and headquartered in Rolling Meadows, designs, develops and manufactures complex defense electronics that protect military aircraft, ships, satellites and ground vehicles from attack by modern weapons, and also produces aircraft targeting and navigation systems plus test and evaluation equipment. The Rolling Meadows facility employs more than 2,000 and covers 1,000,000 square feet, producing superior electronic equipment to the U.S. military and NATO nations.

The Defensive Systems Division is a component of the company's Baltimore-based Electronic Systems sector, a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of defense and commercial electronics and systems including airborne radar, navigation systems, electronic countermeasures, precision weapons, airspace management systems, communication systems, space sensors, marine and naval systems, government systems and logistics services.
