REDONDO BEACH, Calif., Sept. 27, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) invites the public to attend the Space Park Inter-Tribal Pow Wow on Saturday, Oct. 2, a festive celebration that will feature Native American cultural traditions such as inter-tribal drumming, singing and dancing in traditional dress.
The free event - part of Northrop Grumman Space Technology's observance of Hispanic Heritage Month - will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the company's Space Park campus in Redondo Beach. The event will be held in the parking lot adjoining E2, the 11-story building on Marine Ave. off of Aviation Blvd.
Those attending will also have the opportunity to hear and meet guest speakers such as Joe Morris Sr., a Navajo Code Talker who will discuss his experiences in the Pacific theatre during World War II. Native American dishes, plus art and gifts will be available for sale.
"It's a natural fit for this event to be held in the midst of Hispanic Heritage Month, considering the many cultural ties between Hispanics and Native Americans in the Southwestern United States," said Michael Holmes, co-chair of the Space Technology sector's Native American Caucus. "This is a chance for everyone to view and enjoy a unique cultural experience. Some of the 'brave' spectators will even have the opportunity to join in a traditional friendship 'Round Dance'."
The event is being hosted jointly by the Native American Caucus and the Hispanic network group Adelante, and two of the nine Diversity Network groups supported by the Space Technology sector's Diversity/Equal Employment Opportunity Office. The Pow Wow is being held in association with the Southern California Indian Center and the American Indian Science & Engineering Society.
