Artimplant: A new Artelon(R) Surgical Suture available in Europe

Artimplant receives CE-certificate for additional size of Artelon(R) Surgical Suture

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Nov. 8, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Artimplant AB, a Swedish biomaterials and orthobiologics company, has been granted CE-certification for a thicker and stronger -- size 2 -- Artelon(R) Surgical Suture that meets additional needs mainly in orthopedics. Previously, a thinner size -- 2-0 -- suture has been approved for marketing in Europe.

Artelon(R), a degradable polyurethaneurea, is a unique patented biomaterial that acts as a temporary support to the healing tissue. Excellent biocompatibility for Artelon(R) is demonstrated at several time intervals in soft tissue and bone. The long degradation time of Artelon surgical suture offers benefits to patients, especially in situations with slow healing or in tissue exposed to high mechanical load, for example repair of tendon and ligaments.

The new suture is suitable for repair of tendons and ligaments, e.g. Achilles tendon.

Artimplant intends to further expand its product line of fibers, scaffolds and films for use in various orthopedic, oral and plastic surgery applications.
