Energy Conservation Technologies, Inc. Announces Development of High Wattage Compact Fluorescent Ballast Technology


BOULDER, Colo., Jan. 25, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Energy Conservation Technologies, Inc. (Pink Sheets:ENYC), a landmark technology company ("Econ"), announces that it has developed a more advanced electronic ballast for high power compact fluorescent (CFL) lamps that are currently being introduced by major lamp manufacturers. These ballasts also provide continuous dimming from 100 percent light down to 10 percent.

In recent months, technological advances by major fluorescent lamp manufacturers have resulted in high power compact fluorescent (CFL) lamps that range from 60 to 120 watts. These CFL require dedicated electronic ballasts for proper operations. Compact fluorescent lamps are approximately 5 times more efficient than incandescent bulbs. As an example, an 80 watt CFL can replace a 400 watt incandescent bulb and in the process, save 320 watts of electrical energy while lasting 10 to 20 times longer.

Econ Chairman and Director of Engineering, Fazle Quazi stated that, "High power compact fluorescent lamps are going to replace higher wattage incandescent bulbs, not only because they save significant amounts of energy, but because they run much cooler and will last much longer. Econ's electronic ballast for the high power CFL are a scaled down version of our HID electronic ballasts. This means these new high power CFL will be able to run even more efficiently using our ballast technology and our new ballast design will be significantly smaller and more efficient and cost less to produce than competing ballast designs for high power CFL."

He further explained, "We are taking advantage of our fully developed HID electronic ballasts. Our ballast technology foundation is broad based and can easily be expanded to many different lamps. Utilizing an advanced feature such as a constant power control, all of our ballasts can also dim lamps continuously. Any desired light level can be precisely maintained over time. Our ballast will allow the high power CFL to be dimmed down to 10 percent of the bulbs light level without sacrificing lamp life. This will save an additional 80 percent of electrical energy. As an example, Econ's high power CFL ballast is much smaller in size compared to the Phillips/Advanced Transformer, now available. Econ's introduction of electronic ballasts for high power CFL's is very timely and should put us in a leadership position. This is very exciting development for Econ and we will be pursuing this aggressively."

Econ's new electronic ballasts for high power CFL will be relatively inexpensive and will allow the ballasts-lamp combination to be purchased at a cost that makes them a competitive alternative to incandescent and certain HID lighting (the lamps used in warehouse and department stores, high ceiling applications, etc.). It's important to note that approximately 20-plus percent of all the energy produced in the United States and up to 40 percent in third world countries are used in lighting applications.

Discussions are now in progress with a major lighting manufacturer in Mexico and with a Fortune 500 company regarding licensing our patents and future patent filings.
