MONTREAL, Feb. 15, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Since posting odds on who will be outted as the gay "Simpson", BetUS.com has seen more than 3,000 bets placed on this Sunday's episode. In addition to placing bets on which character will announce his/her homosexuality, bets are also being wagered on whether the FOX super series will seal the matrimonial ceremony with a kiss.
"Our customers seem to believe that The Simpsons' writers will script a kiss," according to Mike Foreman, spokesperson for BetUS.com. "Other sitcoms have aired same-sex marriages in the past, but none of the episodes dared to broadcast the traditional kiss between partners. The Simpsons just might be brave enough to do what other sitcoms didn't have the guts to do," said Foreman.
Since yesterday, BetUS.com has logged over 600 bets related to 'the kiss', the majority of those in favor of a cartoon-smooch. According to Foreman, seeing that The Simpsons is known for pushing the envelope, don't be surprised if the Emmy-winning sitcom goes the extra mile during Sunday's gay marriage ceremony.
"There have been rumors circulating about this particular episode since last summer, and every story angle has been explored via the Internet and covered by the media," Foreman said. "Expect the unexpected, because I believe the producers have been following the rumors, and they will change the story to keep viewers guessing".
The Wichita Eagle reported that executive producer, Al Jean, stated in an interview that the show can be changed up until the last minute and that Sunday's episode had not been finalized. With all the hoopla The Gay Simpsons episode has received, many now believe the show will have to do its best this weekend to keep audiences intrigued.
"The pressure's on to create an episode that is not anti-climactic," Foreman stated. "I'm betting that the upcoming episode is full of surprises and that the cartoon will not disappoint. My money's on there being a kiss and it involving Moe."
BetUS.com posted odds on 'the kiss' and first listed the proposition at 3 to 1 (against the symbolic gesture). The proposition changed this morning to reflect the numerous bets placed in favor of 'the kiss'. The proposition is now listed at 7 to 5. The entertainment gaming company is still accepting wagers on which character will come out of the closet during Sunday's episode. Patty Bouvier is still the betting favorite.
