PORTLAND, Ore., March 3, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) has issued a General Use Level Designation (GULD) for Basic Treatment for the Stormwater Management StormFilter(r) - making it the first and only stand-alone proprietary technology approved in the state for basic treatment.
The StormFilter was evaluated over a two year period through extensive field monitoring at multiple sites in Washington. With influent particle size distribution ranging from silt to silt loam, it was demonstrated that the StormFilter consistently satisfied Ecology's stormwater treatment goals for Basic Treatment, utilizing ZPG(tm) media at an individual cartridge flow rate of 7.5 gpm. ZPG is a blend of three types of filter media: zeolite, perlite, and granular activated carbon.
An independent consultant verified these findings and procedures as mandated in the Guidance for Evaluating Emerging Stormwater Treatment Technologies, Technology Assessment Protocol - Ecology (TAPE). Ecology and the Technical Review Committee then confirmed these findings. Stormwater Management became the first recipient of a GULD for Basic Treatment as a stand-alone Best Management Practice (BMP).
This is a significant achievement for Stormwater Management, as it marks the culmination of 10 years of research and development. "Ecology has challenged the stormwater industry with defining a basic treatment standard," said Senior Vice President James Lenhart, "and Stormwater Management is the first company to successfully demonstrate in the field that the StormFilter meets this standard."
