Alfa Laval Delivers Environmentally Friendly Solutions to Fincantieri


STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 1, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Alfa Laval -- a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling -- has recived a major order from the Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri. The order includes the complete fuel oil treatment system for five cruise ships and two ro-ro vessels. The total order value is approximately SEK 75 million, of which SEK 30 million was booked late 2004.

The order from Fincantieri features a rather unusual solution for the marine application; Double wall heat exchangers to avoid contamination. Another solution includes a heat recovery system for the cruise ship "Costa Crociere", based on a new generation of heat exchangers. The solutions are environmentlly friendly and and decrease the fuel consumption. The cruise ships are built on behalf of the Carnival Group and the ro-ro vessels are owned by Finnlines. The systems will be delivered during 2005 and 2006.

Complete solutions for product tankers for approx SEK 18 million

Besides the cooperation with Fincantieri Alfa Laval has recently provided solutions for 14 product tankers belonging to the Latvian Shipping Company. The approx SEK 18 million contracts were signed with two different shipyards and consist of products from Alfa Laval's core product portfolio for the marine industry, e.g. fuel and lubricating oil treatment systems, fresh water distillers and heat exchangers. Four of the tankers will be built by Hyundai Mipo in Korea. The other ten tankers will be produced by a shipyard in Croatia.
