SODERTALJE, Sweden, June 6, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Scania is to premiere its latest generation of CrewCabs for emergency and fire service vehicles at Interschutz 2005 in Hannover. Featuring an enhanced standard of safety, the new Scania CrewCab range has undergone the same impact tests as Scania's normal cab range. These tests, which make the cabs the safest in the industry, are currently the most stringent in the world.
"Safety is of the utmost importance, especially when it comes to crews that have to go into action quickly to save others," says Hakan Lionell, Sales Manager, Special Vehicles, and Scania's specialist in emergency vehicles.
The CrewCab concept, which can accommodate up to eight crew, is now used on fire tenders all over the world. With its four entry doors, the Scania CrewCab first appeared on the Scania 4-series in the late 1990s and quickly became a success. Approximately 2,000 units have been delivered to date.
As part of Scania's standard modular system, the Scania CrewCab is factory-built to the same high quality as other Scania cabs. This includes the aspect of ergonomics, not just in relation to the driver, but to the crew as a whole:
"This relates to seating posture, belts, storage facilities, and so on. In this context, the advances which Scania introduced in the R-series and which won it the Truck of the Year 2005 award, have been transferred directly to the Scania CrewCab," notes Hakan Lionell.
The new P-series Scania CrewCab will be available in the CP28 version for 5-6 crew and a bigger version, the CP31, for 6-8 crew.
"The fact that it is factory-built means that we eliminate long lead times vis-a-vis the customer," emphasises Hakan Lionell, "while the cab is also better prepared for bodybuilding work."
