ASM International N.V. to Host Epitaxy and High-k Technology Symposia

BILTHOVEN, Netherlands, June 7, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- ASM International N.V. (Nasdaq:ASMI) (Euronext Amsterdam:ASM) will host technical seminars on epitaxy and high-k dielectrics in the evening of June 15, 2005, at the Shin Miyako Hotel, Kyoto, Japan. The symposia are held in conjunction with the VLSI Research Conference where IC manufacturers and R&D institutes with whom ASM has key strategic partnerships will present several papers. Guest speakers at the ASM symposium are from Freescale Semiconductor Inc., a leading manufacturer of advanced CMOS and BiCMOS integrated circuits; Soitec, the world's largest supplier of engineered substrates; IMEC, Europe's leading research center in the field of microelectronics and nanotechnology; and, STMicroelectronics, one of the world's largest independent semiconductor companies.

In the epitaxy session, Bich-Yen Nguyen, a Freescale Fellow, will discuss "Integration of Local Strain on Insulator Wafers; and Carlos Mazure, chief technology officer at Soitec Group, will cover "Strained SOI Wafers for CMOS". Chantal Arena, ASM's director of epitaxial research and development, will provide an overview of "ASM's Strained Silicon and Elevated Source Drain Processes".

The seminar topics for high-k dielectrics are: "Atomic Layer Deposition of HfSiON for Gate Dielectrics", presented by Wim Deweerd, senior researcher at IMEC on high-k and metal gates; and "PEALD Dielectrics for MIM Capacitors", addressed by Mickael Gros-Jean, technical leader high-k dielectrics at STMicroelectronics. Additionally, Glen Wilk, ASM's director of atomic layer deposition research and development, will provide an overview of "ASM's Transistor and Capacitor Process Technology".
