Blue-Ribbon Panel to Discuss San Diego Environmental Challenges

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 26, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- A blue-ribbon panel of elected officials and environmentalists will discuss "San Diego's Environmental Challenges" at the Museum of Photographic Art, 1649 El Prado in Balboa Park, tonight at 7 p.m.

Panelists at the "Greening of San Diego" forum include: John Geesman, former commissioner of the California Energy Commission; Rick Halsey, California Native Plant Society; Calif. Sen. Christine Kehoe; Scott Peters, San Diego city councilman; Jim Peugh, Audubon Society; Bruce Reznik, San Diego Baykeeper; Ken Smokosa of the Sierra Club and Irene Stillings, executive director of the San Diego Regional Energy Office. Ron Roberts, member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, will also attend.

"This event presents a unique opportunity for key environmental advocates and elected representatives to exchange their views in a highly accessible public forum," said Bret Lane, vice president of environmental, safety and facilities for San Diego Gas & Electric, sponsor of the event. "Environmental issues affect us all, and engaging in an enlightened dialogue about the key challenges we're facing is the first step in ensuring a good quality of life for our region in the future."

Weather broadcaster Loren Nancarrow of KGTV Channel 10 will moderate the panel, which will be taped and broadcast on Channel 10 on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The Greening of San Diego forum is patterned after a highly successful similar event, "The Greening of California," held annually in Los Angeles.

The Greening of San Diego is produced by a non-profit 501(c)3 whose mission statement is to encourage public discourse about civic issues and to provide public access to community decision-makers. The organization has been producing similar events in Los Angeles and throughout out the state for many years. The Greening of San Diego is made possible by support from various corporate sponsors including SDG&E in San Diego.
