Nomadix and ROC-net Launch Wi-Fi Canopy for Downtown Rockford, IL

Westlake Village, California, UNITED STATES

NEWBURY PARK, Calif., March 21, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Nomadix, Inc. (www.Nomadix.com), the leading supplier of intelligent network devices and interconnect services for guest access, digital cities, and carrier HotSpots, and ROC-net Services, a co-operation of local private businesses providing Internet connectivity and other high-tech solutions in Northern Illinois, launched a Wi-Fi canopy for an 8-square-mile area of downtown Rockford. The deployment is the first step in a wider initiative to provide wireless broadband services to 10 counties in the region. ROC-net made the announcement at a press conference on January 30th, featuring Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, a representative from Illinois Senator Barack Obama's office, Illinois Congressman Don Manzullo, and Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn. Rockford is 60 miles west of Chicago.

To power the deployment, ROC-net Services has installed new "cellular-style" base stations on top of buildings owned by Fridh Corporation, a local real estate development firm. Businesses and individuals within the coverage area now have access to fixed and mobile wireless service. ROC-net expects the Rockford area will see a number of benefits traditionally associated with municipal Wi-Fi deployments, including stimulation of the local economy.

"Nomadix was the clear partner for gateway technology," said John Avampato, CEO of ROC-net Services. "As we expand Wi-Fi coverage across Northern Illinois, we know we can rely on Nomadix gateways for their superior performance and security."

The Nomadix Service Engine(tm) (NSE) resides in venue, carrier, or service provider infrastructure to enable connectivity in public access environments. Embedded on the NSE itself, Nomadix's patented gateway software immediately and invisibly adapts to a computer's settings to enable a secure, easy-to-use connection. In addition, NSE software creates a unique service creation environment, and supports a variety of revenue-generating mechanisms for operators. Since its inception, Nomadix has shipped 25,000 NSE-enabled units to customers in over 60 countries. This Roc-Net deployment was done in partnership with Airpath Wireless, Inc. and their hosted OSS solution.

"We are pleased to see another Digital City adaptation of our highly customizable public access technology," said Kurt Bauer, president and CEO of Nomadix. "Our products and services allow ISPs, venues and public access service operators to provide reliable, easy-to-use connectivity and to generate multiple revenue streams."
