Temecula's Big Red Weekend One of a Kind

TEMECULA, Calif., March 28, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Get ready for Temecula's Big Red Weekend, the only wine tasting event sponsored by a regional association that exclusively concentrates on red wines produced by its members.

"As far as we know, we are the only wine region in the nation to hold such an event," said Linda Kissam, executive director of the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association, which is sponsoring the event. "Others focus on individual red varietals, but Temecula is the only place you can celebrate everything from Cabernet Franc to Zinfandel."

Sample over 40 different wines including hearty Spanish reds such as Tempranillo and Garnacha, sip Bordeaux favorites Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, or belly up to a Super Tuscan that brings out the best of Sangiovese grapes.

"Over time we have discovered that Southern Rhone and Tuscan varietals grow best here in Temecula," said Ray Falkner, winery owner and chair of the association's fundraising committee. "Several of the wineries will even be serving Nebbiolo, a wine that has its origins in the Piedmont region of Italy."

Big Red Weekend, April 22-23 is a convenient way to "Taste the Place" and find out why the balanced fruit-forward Temecula wines go well with great food or just by themselves.

Visit more than 20 different wineries to see how their wine pairs up with specially prepared food. The event runs from 10 AM – 4:30 PM on each day. Ticket holders will start at either Leonesse Cellars or VR LA Cereza Winery.

Each Big Red Weekend participant receives a souvenir wine glass. Price: $80 per person. $60 designated drivers (no wine). For information call the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association at 800-801-WINE or go online to: www.temeculawines.org.
