50th Anniversary of American Dance Guild: Many Voices of Dance Today

Dance Festival: May 30-June 4, 2006 at Hudson Guild Theater, 441 W. 26th St. (bet. 9th & 10th Avenues) NYC


NEW YORK, May 19, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- "Many Voices Of Dance Today" kicks off on May 30th with an improvisational event by festival dancers, directed by Gloria McLean, and highlighted by performances of Maida Withers (guest artist), Jorge Tovar (guest artist), SI Reasoning and Deborah Mauldin, Kevin T. Frey. Live media by Phyllis Bulkin Lehrer and installation by Dance Entropy. Dance personalities Betty Jones, Carmen de Lavallade, Elizabeth Zimmer, Don McDonagh, Ann Hutchinson Guest, Renata Celichowska and Maida Withers will speak. A reception follows.

Thirty-four dance companies from across the United States will be presented on the four evenings, along with special guest artist, Jorge Tovar, from Colombia. Together they provide a window to the remarkable diversity of contemporary dance styles. The festival will close with a dance film festival on June 4th featuring the works of Mimi Garrard, Lori Belilove, Troika Ranch, Philip Szporer and Aspassia Yaga.

Also, there are 4 master classes planned, Wed-Sat at 10-11:30 AM, onstage at the Hudson Guild. The classes will be taught by Maida Withers (Wednesday), Jorge Tovar (Thursday), Laurie Cameron (Friday), and Li Chiao Ping (Saturday) and are open to all interested dancers.
