O2Micro Granted Key Inverter Patent in Japan

GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman, June 12, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- O2Micro(r) International Limited (Nasdaq:OIIM) (HKSE:0457), a leading supplier of innovative power management, and security components and systems for the Computer, Consumer, Industrial, and Communications markets, was issued 68 claims under Japan patent number 3,758,165 for its Phase Array invention.

This patent grant complements Inverter patents issued previously to O2Micro(r) in the United States and Korea. Its patented architecture is the basis of O2Micro's Phase Array backlight Intelligent Inverter(r) technology and product family providing the highest performance for large-size LCD panel applications that require multiple lamps, such as LCD TVs and monitors. This results in lower system cost and increased system performance by reducing the ripple current during Low Frequency Pulse Width Modulation (LPWM) dimming.

"This patented architecture provides phased dimming control that is popularly used for all large-size LCD TV and monitor applications," stated Dr. Yung Lin, executive vice president, O2Micro. "This key Phase Array technology is now patented in four major worldwide LCD TV markets -- Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United States."
